_______
WELCOME

Welcome to 'We Can Take Back America', the screen saver that
expresses your most cherished beliefs (if you're a dittohead
that is). Liberals will run for the nearest Cancel button!
To get the most from your new screen saver, please carefully
review the following information. For a shortened version
of this document, one that contains only the most essential
information, click the 'TakeBack Read Me File' icon in the
Start menu or double-click the icon in the TakeBack folder.

____________
INSTALLATION

To install the program, simply follow the on-screen prompts.
The only decision that you'll be asked to make is where you
want the program installed. The default destination folder
is C:\Program Files\TakeBack, but you can install the files
anywhere you want by pressing the Browse button and choosing
a drive and folder. At the end of the installation process,
you will be asked whether you want to restart the computer.
If you click the Yes button, your computer will be restarted
automatically. If you instead click the No button, you will
need to manually restart the computer by choosing Shut Down
from the Start menu. The screen saver program will not run
properly until the computer has been restarted. Also, even
though this software will install successfully on a computer
running Windows NT 3.51, it will not run properly once it's
installed. If your computer is running Windows NT 3.51 or
earlier and does not use the Windows 95 or NT 4.0 interface,
you should not install this program.

______________
REINSTALLATION

If for some reason you should need to reinstall the program
(for instance if you have accidentally deleted a component
file), you should take care to reinstall to the same folder
the program was originally installed to. The installation
program will NOT search your hard drives and automatically
install to the folder where the program is located. It will
instead default to the location C:\Program Files\TakeBack,
the same folder it originally defaulted to. So if you have
placed the program in a different location, be sure to use
this location when you reinstall the program. If the screen
saver program is not functioning properly, and you suspect a
corrupted file, you should first uninstall the program from
your hard drive before attempting to reinstall. Should the
corrupted file's date/time stamp be more recent than the one
in the installation, the corrupted file won't be replaced.

______________
UNINSTALLATION

If you decide that you don't want 'We Can Take Back America'
inhabiting your computer, you can give it an eviction notice
by selecting the 'Uninstall Take Back America' item from the
Start menu. If you like to do things the hard way, you can
manually uninstall the screen saver program by utilizing the
data contained in the SETUPLOG.TXT file. Or use Add/Remove
Programs in the Control Panel for an alternative method of
automatic uninstall. Automatic uninstallation will not work
properly and the 'Function Not Supported' error message will
be displayed if a perfect uninstall is not possible caused
by any one or more of the following conditions:

   * If the TakeBackDir environment variable has not been
set or has been set incorrectly. This variable holds
the name of the folder where the program is located.

   * If the program has been moved from where it was first
installed. Its location cannot be determined.

   * If the icons have been moved out of the Conservative
Expressions folder or if this folder is renamed. The
whereabouts of the icons is an unsolvable mystery.

   * If User Profiles were enabled at the time the program
was installed. The icon location can't be determined
because the Start menu folder has been redefined.

   * If the Start menu folder has been moved to some other
location or if it is renamed. The icons' location is
       therefore unknown.

   * If the uninstall program UNINST.EXE has been deleted
from the Windows folder. This program is needed for
       removing Registry keys.

   * If the data file DEISL1.ISU has been deleted from the
program's folder. It is required by UNINST.EXE.

If one of the preceding conditions is in effect at the time
of the uninstallation, you'll have to uninstall the program
manually using the data in the SETUPLOG.TXT file or use some
other uninstallation utility.

STARTING THE SCREEN SAVER

After the screen saver program has been correctly installed
and the computer has been restarted, you can start up your
screen saver by clicking the Conservative Expressions button
on the Taskbar and then double-clicking on the TakeBack icon
that then appears in the now-opened Conservative Expressions
folder. When the screen saver is initially run, it makes an
icon for itself automatically on the Desktop. If you do not
want the TakeBack icon taking space on your Desktop, simply
drag it to the Recycle Bin and use only the icon contained
in the Start menu. You can also type TAKEBACK at the MS-DOS
prompt. If you prefer to have the TakeBack icon at the top
of the Start menu, you can drag the icon on the Desktop onto
the Start button and then delete the desktop icon. Another
way to start the screen saver is by using the shortcut key
combination CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+F2. If User Profiles are enabled
at the time of the installation, the desktop icon will not
be created when the screen saver is first run.

_________________________
STOPPING THE SCREEN SAVER

To return to the Desktop when the screen saver is displayed,
simply press the Spacebar. If a shareware reminder message
appears, just press the Spacebar once again to wipe off the
message and return at once to the Desktop. Once the program
is registered, the shareware screen will no longer be shown.
You can also exit the screen saver by pressing the ESC key
as many times as required. You will eventually get back to
the Desktop by using this method. Moving the mouse does not
stop the screen saver.

__________________________
ADJUSTING THE SCREEN SAVER

To experiment with various screen saver options, just press
any of the arrow keys on your keyboard. Pressing the Up and
Down arrow keys adjusts the screen saver's SIZE. Pressing
the Left and Right arrow keys adjusts the SPEED of display.
These adjustments can also be made by pressing the M (Mode)
and the S (Speed) keys on the computer keyboard. But don't
worry. You won't be required to remember any of these keys.
Simply press the F1 key for help and all will be listed.

____________________
GETTING ON-LINE HELP

To display a menu of available choices and options, simply
press the F1 key. A help menu appears. Press the letter of
the desired command or option, or use an arrow key to high-
light the option and press the Enter key. To display a list
of available command-line switches, type TAKEBACK /? at the
MS-DOS Prompt.

____________________________
CONTROLLING THE SCREEN SAVER

All screen saver choices and options are controlled by key
presses from the keyboard. For example, pressing the B key
produces a completely blank screen for those times when you
don't want anything displayed on your computer's screen. If
you later choose to resume the normal screen saver display,
you can do so by pressing the B key again or your Spacebar.
However, certain keys are inactive and pressing one of these
keys may have an undesired effect. Inadvertently pressing
an inactive key will pause the screen saver and make it look
like it's broken. This is normal behavior however and can
be easily fixed by pressing the Tab key or the key directly
above it.

_________________________
AUTOMATIC SCREEN BLANKING

To further protect your computer's monitor from the supposed
hazards of "phosphor burn-in," the screen saver's animation
will be blanked automatically after approximately 1 hour in
slow-running mode and after 2 to 3 hours in the fast-running
mode. The exact time period will probably vary on different
computers, especially if the screen saver is running in fast
mode. If the software is not registered, that ever-present
shareware reminder message will be displayed for 12 minutes
before the screen goes blank. To resume normal screen saver
display after screen blanking has occurred, simply press the
Spacebar. The automatic blanking feature can be disabled by
adding the following line to the end of the CONFIG.SYS file:

       SET TakeBackBlackOut=0

The procedure for this is as follows:

   1. Click the Start button, point to Programs, and click
       on MS-DOS Prompt.

   2. At the MS-DOS Prompt, type EDIT C:\CONFIG.SYS and hit
       the Enter key.

   3. The MS-DOS Editor program appears with the CONFIG.SYS
file loaded. Press the Down arrow key to move to the
end of the file and type the above line exactly as it
       appears. Capitalization is not important.

   4. Click on File, click on Exit, and when asked whether
or not to save the file, click on the Yes button.

   5. Type EXIT and press Enter to get back to the Windows
Desktop, and when the Desktop reappears, use the Shut
Down item on the Start menu to restart the computer.

After the computer has been restarted, and the screen saver
has been reactivated, it will no longer automatically blank
out but will animate indefinitely.

_______________________________
SETTING UP AUTOMATIC ACTIVATION

Automatic activation after a specified period of keyboard or
mouse inactivity is possible if using Windows 95 but only if
Microsoft Plus!, the Windows 95 add-on, is also installed on
your computer. If you do not currently have Microsoft Plus!
installed, you cannot set up automatic activation. To make
your screen saver start up automatically, please perform the
following procedure:

   1. Deactivate any screen saver that is currently active.
To deactivate Windows 95 screen savers, right-click
any open area of the Desktop and in the context menu
that appears, click on Properties. In the resulting
Display Properties dialog, click on the Screen Saver
tab and select None from the drop-down list. Click
the OK button to close the dialog and deactivate the
       Windows screen saver.

   2. If the System Agent icon appears on the right side of
the Taskbar, proceed to step 3. If this icon doesn't
appear in the Taskbar, click the Start button, point
to Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and click on
System Agent. If a dialog box appears asking you to
confirm that you indeed want to run the System Agent
program, confirm that you do by clicking on Yes.

   3. If the System Agent window isn't open on the Desktop,
double-click the System Agent icon on your Taskbar.
In the Program menu of the System Agent window click
on Schedule a New Program. The Schedule New Program
dialog box appears in which you make these 3 changes:
   a. In the Program box type the following: TAKEBACK.BAT
   b. In the Description box type: We Can Take Back America
   c. Remove the check mark from the Log Results check box.
After having made the preceding 3 changes, click on
the When To Run button in this same dialog box.

   4. In the Run section of the Change Schedule dialog box,
click on the When Idle option button. After clicking
on When Idle, the Start After section of the dialog
box appears. You can then click the tiny Up and Down
arrow buttons to adjust the idle time after which the
screen saver will automatically start. When you are
satisfied with your selection, click the OK button.

'We Can Take Back America' has now been added to the System
Agent window indicating that it is successfully configured
for automatic activation. Close the System Agent window by
using the Exit command on the Program menu or by clicking on
the Close button on the right side of the Title bar.

_____________________________
PREVENTING MULTIPLE INSTANCES

After the screen saver is set up for automatic activation,
the preferred method of MANUALLY starting the screen saver
is to open System Agent and start it from there. Otherwise,
multiple instances of the screen saver may occur. While two
copies of the screen saver running simultaneously can do no
harm, it can be confusing and annoying. To prevent multiple
instances from occurring, always start the screen saver from
System Agent if you are running it automatically. Just open
the System Agent window by double-clicking on the small icon
on the right side of the Taskbar, select the screen saver in
the window, and choose Run Now from the Program menu.

_______________________
CHANGING THE DELAY TIME

To change the number of minutes that must elapse before the
screen saver will automatically be activated, double-click
the System Agent icon, select the screen saver item in the
System Agent window, and choose the Change Schedule item in
the Program menu. In the dialog box that appears, click the
tiny Up and Down arrows in the Start After section until the
desired number of minutes appears. Click OK in this Change
Schedule dialog box and click the Close button in the upper
right corner of the System Agent window.

_______________________________________
TURNING AUTOMATIC ACTIVATION ON AND OFF

If you should want to run a different screen saver or if you
require that the screen saver be inactive, you can disable
automatic activation. This task can be accomplished in two
different ways: You can disable the screen saver itself or
you can suspend System Agent. If you suspend System Agent,
none of the other programs initiated by System Agent will be
run. To disable JUST the screen saver, double-click on the
System Agent icon in the Taskbar, select the screen saver in
the System Agent window, and choose Disable from the Program
menu. To suspend System Agent, right-click the Taskbar icon
and choose Suspend System Agent from the menu that appears.
To re-enable the screen saver or to reactivate System Agent,
follow exactly this same procedure. If more than just one
Conservative Expressions screen saver is configured in the
System Agent window, all but one of them should be disabled,
or all of them should be disabled. Otherwise, two different
screen savers will try to run simultaneously.

_____________________________
REMOVING AUTOMATIC ACTIVATION

To permanently remove the screen saver item from the System
Agent window so that the screen saver will no longer start
up automatically, double-click the System Agent icon on the
Taskbar, highlight the screen saver item in the System Agent
window, and choose Remove from the Program menu. When the
Confirm Schedule Delete dialog box appears, click on the Yes
button to have automatic activation forever disappear. This
procedure should be followed before performing an automatic
uninstallation. The uninstallation program will not remove
references to the screen saver from the System Agent window.

______________________
SHORTCUT KEY CONFLICTS

If the shortcut key combination which starts up the screen
saver, CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+F2, should happen to conflict with a
key combination used by another program (if the screen saver
starts instead of an internal program function), you can zap
this keyboard shortcut by using the following procedure:

   1. Right-click the Start button and choose Open from the
       context menu that appears.

   2. In the Start Menu folder that appears, double-click
       the Programs icon.

   3. In the Programs folder that appears, double-click on
       the Conservative Expressions icon.

   4. In the Conservative Expressions folder, right-click
the icon, 'We Can Take Back America'.

   5. In the context menu that appears, click Properties,
and when the properties sheet appears, click on the
       Program tab.

   6. In the Program tab of the properties sheet, click in
the Shortcut Key box and hit the Delete key. Click
       the OK button.

   7. Click on the Close button in the open folder windows
and restart the computer twice to remove the keyboard
shortcut from the computer's memory. Just restarting
the computer once won't disable the key combination.

After following this procedure, the key combination should
work properly in the other application, and the screen saver
will not start when this shortcut is pressed.

________________________
USING THE TROUBLESHOOTER

If the screen saver should grossly malfunction, for example
if garbage characters are displayed on a black background,
use the CTRL+BREAK key combination to immediately terminate
the program and choose the 'TakeBack Troubleshooter' item on
the Start button menu. Such gross malfunctions are caused
by a configuration change on your computer such as deleting
an essential file or removing a required statement from the
CONFIG.SYS file. After the program has once run properly,
it should continue to function perfectly unless one of these
configuration changes should happen to occur. In this case,
the Troubleshooter program will diagnose the problem, and it
will either fix it automatically or describe the solution.

The first few times the screen saver is run, system checking
ordinarily performed by the Troubleshooter is performed by
the screen saver itself at the start of its operation. The
Conservative Expressions copyright notice together with the
'Checking Your System' message is displayed when the screen
saver first begins, following which the screen saver works
normally. This checking will continue until the computer is
once again restarted. After the system is twice restarted,
automatic system checking will no longer occur, the screen
saver will start up normally, and the copyright notice will
not be displayed.

_______________________
THE AUXILIARY EXIT FILE

The screen saver program uses a file in the root directory
of Drive C named ^ENDING.BAT that enables a more rapid exit
and a much faster return to the Windows Desktop than would
otherwise be possible. If you should happen to delete this
file, the screen saver will become quite sluggish when you
press the Spacebar to return to the Desktop. If you notice
that it takes more time than usual to exit the screen saver,
simply run the TakeBack Troubleshooter. The root directory
file, C:\^ENDING.BAT, will be automatically restored.

_____________________
A BATCH-BASED PROGRAM!

In case any computer nerds out there might be wondering, the
program 'We Can Take Back America' is a totally batch-based
program. There are no EXE or COM files present, a situation
extremely unusual in the realm of PC programs. We make the
claim that this is the world's finest batch program. Let us
know if anyone disagrees.

______________________
ACCESSING THE WEB SITE

If you currently have an Internet connection set up on your
computer, the Conservative Expressions Web Site's only a few
clicks away! Just click the 'Connect to the Web Site' icon
in the Start menu or double-click on the HTML document (it's
called Connect!) in the TakeBack folder. As the HTML file
opens in Netscape or Internet Explorer, just click the link
to beam up to the site. If more than just one Conservative
Expressions screen saver has been installed and one of them
has been uninstalled, clicking this icon in the Start menu
may result in a Missing Shortcut dialog box. If this should
occur, let Windows automatically search for the shortcut's
target. It should reconnect to the appropriate file.
